Common Plumbing Issues And How To Approach Them

Posted on

There is a lot to learn about your home in order to keep it in tip top shape. Plumbing is one of the areas of concern that you want to focus on learning more about. Here are a lot of different plumbing tips and tricks that can help you to catch issues, fix issues, and even prevent issues:

Toilet won't flush – If your toilet won't flush then you want to take off the top to the tank and make sure the handle connection hasn't come loose. If the repairs go beyond this simple fix, then you should call a plumber.

Toilet is clogged – The easiest and fastest way to deal with a clogged toilet is to use a plunger. If the plunger doesn't work, then you can try adding a bucket full of very hot water down the drain. If you continue to have issues regularly, or if you can't unclog the toilet using these tricks, then you may have a clog down further in the system and you'll need drain cleaning services to find it and take care of the issue for you.

Toilet has a calcium ring around it – If your toilet gets a calcium ring around it then you aren't going to be able to clean the ring out. The best and most effective way for you to instantly get rid of that calcium ring is to take a pumice stone and use it to scrub away the ring.

Showerhead issues – If your showerhead starts to put water out unevenly or in a direction it shouldn't then it means the showerhead is probably clogged with calcium. The easiest way for you to take care of this problem is to soak the showerhead in distilled vinegar. You can do this by putting the distilled vinegar into a sandwich baggie and taping it around the showerhead.

Your toilet runs – If your toilet runs after you flush it, then you can stop it rom running by gently tapping the handle a few times after you flush the toilet until you can get a plumber out to correct the problem for you.

Your sink is clogged – If you have a sink that is clogged then you can try a sink plunger. This should help free up a simple clog. Next, turn off the water, remove the 'p' shaped pipe and remove any debris. Put the pipe back how it was and turn on the water. If you still have a clog, and this is true of any drain including the shower and bathtub, then you'll want a plumber or a drain cleaning service to fix the problem.
