3 Reasons To Replace Your Home's Water Heater

Posted on

Water heaters are used throughout the day, everyday, yet most homeowners spend very little time thinking about their water heaters when they are in good working condition. However, a traditional tank water heater does not last forever. Eventually, the time will come where a water heater has reached the end of its lifespan any will need to be replaced with a brand new model. Replacing a water heater is not something that most people want to deal with unexpectedly, since it can be a large expense. So, knowing when your water heater needs to be replaced can give you some time to plan and make arrangements.Common reasons water heaters need to be replaced include:

Current Age

Like all home appliances, a water heater has a finite lifespan. On average, a water heater is expected to last around 10 years.  Some water heaters can fail before hitting 10 years of age, while others can last a couple years longer. But, if you know that the water heater in your home is 10 years old or older, it is in your best interest to begin making plans to have your old water heater replaced. You are much better off replacing an old water heater instead of waiting for it to fail completely.

Frequent Repairs

Many issues that a water heater experiences can be repaired by an experienced plumber. Needing to have your water heater repaired is typically not cause for concern, and a one off repair doesn't mean that your water heater needs to be replaced. But, if you get to the point where your water heater is needing repairs on a regular basis, that is often a sign that it is not going to last much longer. It doesn't make sense to continually pay to have you water heater repaired-- instead of spending money on regular repairs, save your cash and have your water heater replaced.

Lack of Hot Water

Owning a hot water heater that can produce ample hot water is essential. As a hot water heater ages, the components that create the hot water can begin to wear out and not work properly. When this happens, you may notice that you run out of hot water quickly or the water coming from your water heater may only be lukewarm. Living with a lack of hot water is a major sign that you should plan on having you water heater replaced very soon.
