Georgia Pacific – Hawthorne, FL

Georgia Pacific. One of the largest manufacturers of plywood products in the country. The 60,000 square foot facility located in Hawthorne Florida produces thousands of plywood sheets annually. These plywood sheets are produced through a series of fiber board compression and finally dried through a series of large furnace‘s which dry and cured the plywood together. When the facilities engineers identified an ongoing problem with a 30 inch drainage pipe located inside the building they called on US Sewer & Drain to help solve the problem.

The 30 inch diameter corrugated metal pipe was originally installed back in the 1960's. The pipe ran 150 feet from an interior manhole back toward the production area where the large 9 million BTU furnaces sat directly over top of the pipe. The pipe was designed to carry the runoff water used in drying process of the plywood as it comes off of the dryers. The problem’s that US Sewer & Drain would face in attempting to rehabilitate the pipe was not only the high Ph level’s in the process water but the temperatures of the water coming off of the dryers was more than 190 degrees fahrenheit. A standard lining material and resin would not do. Not to mention the metal pipe had channel rot in the bottom of the pipe with virtually no pipe left from the 5 o'clock to 7 o'clock position. US Sewer & Drain would need to design a very specific material for this application.

Along with the customer’s specifications of their process and manufacture engineers, US Sewer & Drain recommended a thicker mm liner of 20mm thick along with a hi bred resin that would with stand the temperatures and corrosiveness of the process water. The other challenge with lining this pipe was that the work area was located 600 feet inside of the building. Making it impossible to mobilize standard trucks typically used for this application. US Sewer was up to the challenge. The work was scheduled on a Saturday as not to interrupt with the facilities production schedule. The US Sewer & Drain crew showed up ready to do what it does best. Install Liner.

After the pipe was thoroughly cleaned and televised the crew installed the 150 foot shot of 30 inch diameter by 20mm thick cured-in-place pipeline with ease. Using a specifically designed “Air Cannon” that would allow for the mobilization into the interior work area of the building. The curing process was complete and after three hours the resin was completely hardened. The liner was trimmed off at the ends and complete. The interior six foot deep manhole was also rehabilitated by a sprayed on epoxy coating. Job complete. Another great job completed by the guys at US Sewer & Drain. Thanks for your hard work on this one. Special thanks to team leader David Baker, Mario Bianchi and Ruben Santiago.
