RJ REYNOLDS TOBACCO, CO.
Greensville, North Carolina
RJ Reynolds is one of our countries largest tobacco and cigarette manufacturers. Located in Greensville North Carolina the 500 acre facility built in the 1960’s was experiencing problems with a 12 inch diameter sewer pipe inside of their manufacturing facility. They turned to US Sewer & Drain for answers.
The 12 inch diameter by 200 ft long cast iron pipe was located in the heart of the facility and three stories below ground level. The pipe was buried 8 feet deep under an 18 inch concrete slab. The extremely large machinery built overtop of the pipe stretched as high as the 40 ft ceiling. Excavation was not an option.
The facility had been experiencing major back up's on the 200 ft long line which ultimately accepted 4 individual lateral lines and catch basins from the manufacturing process. These four lines, each six inches’ in diameter and 40 foot long would also present a problem.
After US Sewer & Drain televised the lines it was quickly determined that the pipe was in very bad shape. Channel rot in the bottom as well as sections of the large 12 inch diameter pipe were virtually missing all together. There was also a large amount of debris and metal from over 50 years of production in the pipe which would have to be cleaned first. Not to mention, the pipe was located three stories below ground level. Oh and one more thing, the facility could only take the pipe off line for 48 hours. Which meant the US Sewer crew would have to begin the job on a Friday evening at 11pm and have the pipe back on line by 6 am Monday morning. The US Sewer & Drain crew was up to the challenge.
The team, lead by Louise Salazar, aggressively began cleaning the pipe on the Friday evening. The first pipe liner was shot into place
by 4 am. As the 200 ft long 12 inch diameter liner began to cure out the crew went to work on lining the additional 6 inch lateral lines.
With the US Sewer & Drain "Can Do" attitude the crew worked through the night to ensure the jobs success. By Monday morning at 6 am the US Sewer crew had successfully Televised, Cleaned, and Lined over 360 feet of 6 and 12 inch diameter pipe. GREAT JOB GUY!
